Violet Storto, Contemporary Canadian Artist

I began learning about art  at the old High School of Commerce, Ottawa, in the special ‘commercial art course’ and continued to formal training in photography, graphic arts and fine art.  I retired from teaching full time at Algonquin College in 2014, sold my house and bought a new one in South Mountain, ON. I now have more time to practice making art and find that oil and mixed media are the most interesting and fulfilling media. I love to play with colour and texture, to try out new ways of doing and new materials. I appreciate the courage it takes to change direction and see where the painting will take me.
I was a founding member of ArtScene Spencerville, an artist cooperative gallery in Spencerville ON from 2009 to 2019, when it closed after 10 great years. I am also a member of the Brockville Artists Studio group which shows in Brockville every November.
I am now showing my work at Cailuan Gallery in Cornwall, at 225 Pitt Street. It's a great gallery and worth the drive to see it. I hope you do!
